Lettering Book Cover Design

Lettering Book Cover Design is a series of three book covers with unique lettering and abstract illustrations. Each book has a different background texture and unique line works which are inspired by the story of the book. Diverse medium are used for lettering such as Chinese brush, Marker, toothbrush, and paint brush.

Convenience Store Woman

Convenience Store Woman” by Sayaka Murata follows the life of Keiko Furukura, a socially unconventional woman finding solace in her job at a convenience store. The novel explores themes of societal expectations and individuality with a blend of humor and insight. Title is written by black marker on the ribbed paper and the lines describe the shelves in the convenience store. 

Moshi Moshi

Moshi Moshi” by Banana Yoshimoto follows Yoshie’s journey in Tokyo as she grapples with grief and uncovers family secrets after her father’s death. The novel is a poignant exploration of resilience and self-discovery in the midst of urban life in Japan. The line style telephone illustration are inspired by Yoshie’s story that she gets a phone call from her passed away father. The style of lettering is sorrowful yet powerful to describe Yoshie’s feeling and her life.

 

Pachinko

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee is a sweeping saga following a Korean family over decades, set against the historical backdrop of Korea and Japan. The novel explores themes of love, sacrifice, and identity amidst the challenges of discrimination and the changing tides of history. The lettering is done with Chinese brush on Korean traditional paper called “HanJi”. The rough brushstrokes express the protagonist’s ordeal, anger, and inherent strength. It is also written vertically in accordance with the traditional Korean style of writing. The illustration is inspired by the Pachinko machine and its ball.
